Hybrid Technology

The Subaru Crosstrek Plug-in Hybrid utilizes Subaru StarDrive® Technology, which creates a seamless link between the electric motors and the SUBARU BOXER® gasoline engine. The battery pack can be replenished in one of two ways: by plugging the vehicle into an outlet or by simply driving, with the gas engine providing on-the-fly recharging. The Crosstrek Plug-in Hybrid sends power to all four wheels via Subaru Symmetrical Full-Time AWD, yet is rated at 2.6 Le/100 km** and up to 774 km of total range. These figures are best-in-class for AWD compact crossovers, so you should feel free to explore more.

Everyday Driving

To operate at peak efficiency always, the StarDrive® Technology system automatically draws power from the hybrid battery pack first, then from the gas engine only when needed. The system can also harness kinetic energy—when you take your foot off the accelerator pedal or when the vehicle coasts downhill—and uses this energy to recharge the battery.

All-electric Driving

The Crosstrek Plug-in Hybrid automatically operates in all-electric mode as much as possible, saving you fuel and powering up to 2.6 Le/100 km in all-around efficiency. Yet this innovative SUV still delivers generous response off the line and the confidence that only comes from standard Subaru Symmetrical Full-Time AWD.

Battery Saving

Whenever you want to preserve the charge level of the battery, the Battery Save Mode directs the gas engine to provide most of the power required by the vehicle. This is a useful feature for when you’re taking a longer trip and plan to do more electric driving later, for example, when you’re in urban centres with vehicle emissions restricted areas.

Charging on the Fly

When the battery charge level lowers to a certain point, the gas engine will automatically start up to keep the Crosstrek Plug-in Hybrid motoring right along. You can also charge the battery by driving in Battery Charge Mode, which directs the gas engine to charge the battery at all times, even when the vehicle is stopped. This mode produces up to 33% charge level in just 30 minutes of driving.

Using the standard battery charger, you can plug the vehicle into any 120V household outlet (Level 1) and fully recharge the battery in approximately five hours. When using a 240V outlet (Level 2), the same process takes approximately two hours. Most commercial charging stations have 240V capability, meaning you can quickly recharge and make the most of the hybrid powertrain.

The standard SI-DRIVE® engine management system allows drivers to choose between two modes, Intelligent (I) and Sport (S), for increased efficiency or greater response. The Crosstrek Plug-in Hybrid also features 453 kg (1,000 lbs) of towing capacity, giving you the ability to have bigger adventures.
